What is an indictable offence and what is a summary offence?

  • a. Indictable offences are the most serious. Murder; aggravated sexual assault; robbery; break and enter; and theft over $5,000 are examples.
  • Summary offences are less serious. Unless otherwise noted, they carry a maximum penalty
